What it is
JOOLA's Magnus Pro IV 16mm is Tyson McGuffin's elongated, short-handle paddle. It uses JOOLA's Propulsion Core construction with a Charged Carbon surface and measures roughly 16.5 by 7.5 inches with a five-inch handle.
The 16mm variant is the control-leaning sibling to the thinner 14mm Magnus. Where the 14mm chases pop, the 16mm chases placement.
How it plays
The short handle is the key distinction. Compared with a long-handle elongated paddle, more of the overall length is devoted to the face. Independent hands-on reviews consistently describe top-tier power and spin, with enough control to play all court but a response that still demands developed hands.
It rewards advanced attackers who want leverage without sacrificing as much face area to a long grip. Two-handed-backhand players should note the five-inch handle before buying; the Perseus is the more natural JOOLA shape when extra handle length matters.
Build and specs
Roughly 8.0 oz stock, 4 1/4'' grip, five-inch handle, 16mm Propulsion Core and elongated shape. Surface wear and core consistency remain relevant ownership questions, which is why durability is scored separately from the paddle's strong initial performance.
Where it fits
This is firmly second-paddle territory. The HK$1,962 SmashPoint price puts it well past entry-tier picks like the Vatic V-Sol Pro, and the skill level required to extract the placement advantage means it is wasted on sub-3.5 players. If you came up on a Vatic Prism Flash or a Friday Fever and want a JOOLA build with kitchen touch over raw drive power, this is the one.
For HK buyers, SmashPoint lists it locally, offering a Hong Kong buying route instead of relying only on an overseas order. Check current stock and price with the seller. Humidity-related durability tradeoffs remain unproven for this specific model.
Bottom line
Situational pick. Skip it unless you specifically want a JOOLA hybrid with control bias and are willing to pay flagship-adjacent money for it. If raw power is what you want, the Perseus is the better spend. If control is the priority and budget matters, the CRBN TruFoam Barrage delivers similar control character with foam-core dampening.
