Selkirk Vanguard Control Invikta

The control-bias sister of the Vanguard Power Air. Same Selkirk build quality, lighter swing weight, dialed for kitchen play. The rec-player tournament pick that doesn't go premium-tier price (save the Luxx Control for that).

What it is

The control-bias sister to the Vanguard Power Air Invikta. Same Selkirk Air construction (perimeter foam injection to expand the sweet spot), same X5 polymer core, same raw T700 carbon face, but with a 16mm core instead of 13mm and tuning aimed at touch rather than drive. Elongated shape, advanced-tier paddle.

How it plays

This is the Selkirk you pick if you want the brand's Air-edge tech without the bangers' drive bias. Control (9) leads the data, comfort (8) is solid, and power (6) is the honest trade. You're giving up real power compared to the Power Air, and that's by design.

Owners describe it as a paddle that lets them play kitchen pressure shots with confidence, with enough power on tap to still hit a counter-attack drive when the opening presents itself. The Air-foam edge does the same sweet-spot-expanding work it does on the Power Air, which makes the elongated shape less punishing than it would be on a non-Air paddle.

The lighter swing weight compared to the Power Air is the underrated feature. Some owners with wrist concerns who couldn't run the Power Air long-term find the Control Air manageable for full sessions.

Surface grit wear and edge guard wear are the same Selkirk Air concerns as the Power Air. Plan on replacing the edge guard within 12 to 18 months of heavy play.

Build and specs

7.9 oz stock, 4 1/4'' grip, 16mm X5 polymer core, elongated shape, raw T700 carbon face, Air perimeter foam. The build differentiates on the Air construction; the rest is conventional Selkirk premium quality. Selkirk's warranty network remains the most reliable in the industry.

Where it fits

Advanced control player, tournament-leaning. The price (about HK$1,020 before shipping) puts it firmly in the premium tier. If you want kitchen touch and don't need elite drive, the Control Air Invikta is the more honest Selkirk pick than the Power Air. If you want the absolute control ceiling, the Luxx Control Air Invikta (slightly more expensive) is the upgrade.

For HK buyers, the import wait is real (Tier 3 availability, no local stockist).

Bottom line

Niche pick. Buy it if you want Selkirk's Air-edge construction tuned for control and you're willing to pay flagship money for the warranty network. Skip it if you don't need the brand specifically; a CRBN TruFoam Barrage gives similar control character with a different feel profile, and the SLK Halo Control is Selkirk's own budget option that hits most of the same notes.
